I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now
I heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you

You walked into the ball room and approached the bottom of the stairs. You looked up to the top. There he was, your ex getting married to another girl. He was drinking down his fifth cup of red wine and you wondered why he wasn't sucking on his cigarette like he always did when he was with you. He seemed more alert, younger and at second glance, more clean.

He looked so… upper-classed compared to you. Your gown cost next to nothing after seeing the bride's dress. Everyone was crowding around her, congratulating her on her marriage. You looked at your ex again a glimmer on his wrist caught your eye. It was a new branded watch. What happened to using the sports watch you gave him for his last birthday? Didn't he say he was going to use it for the rest of his life? You looked away from his wrist; the watch's crystal cover was too bright.

He no longer looked what he did with you. Both of you would dress in casual clothes when going out. Him in his normal jeans and t-shirts, you in your jeans and t-shirts. But now, even if you meet on a Sunday afternoon, he would be in a suit and you still in your jeans and t-shirt. He had always wanted to look like a high class person right? Well, he has it now.

Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light.

When your ex saw you, he looked away and pretended to keep talking to the people around him, laughing like he hadn't seen you. When a man came up to talk to him, he deliberately walked further away from your corner. Your mouth twitched. You weren't angry he was treating you this way. Your sadness had numbed all your other emotions.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over

You had been selfish. You knew you should have declined the invitation to this wedding but you wanted to remind your ex how he had dumped you for something you couldn't give him. You wanted him to know that when he's living in his three storied luxurious house, you're cooking instant noodles, trying to make a living out of your numerous part time jobs because the unemployment rate is too damn high. You wanted him to know the pain that you're going through, the pain that you're still going through, the pain he had gone through before.

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead,
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

You have tried to find a new start to a new relationship. But every time things got too serious, you realize you couldn't find the feeling that you get when you see your ex, you couldn't find the reactions that you get when the person touches you.

At the beginning of the ceremony, you had greeted your ex and his wife with a smile and you wish them the best. But inside you were hopping your ex will never forget you. You were wishing he will never let go off you, cancel this ceremony and elope to where ever you both wanted to. Your eyes were pleading for him to take you back but when your eyes met his, you were shocked to know his eyes repeated his last words before he left you: "Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead."

Did he even know how much it actually hurts?

You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised
In a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days

You looked at your ex and saw how he runs his hair through his hair. He has never done that to himself before. It had always been you running your fingers through his hair and you would stare deep into his eyes telling secrets without words. You remembered how he brought you to his field, and called it "our field" where you both would lie down in the flowers and watched the sun go. You would fiddle with his hair and he wouldn't mind. When it got dark and a slight breeze would send shivers down your spine, he would wrap his arms around you and you would rest your head on his chest- everything was perfect. Looking back, it had been years ago but it felt like last week. Hell, it felt like yesterday.

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I'd hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over.

You walked closer to your ex, hoping to get a glimpse of him and hopping he could get a glimpse of you. Would he feel bad and selfish for leaving you?

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

You heart felt like it was clenching really tightly now. What are you doing here? Spending your time at your ex's wedding? What are trying to get him to do? Remind him that you and him had a great time together? Trying to prove that even if you say you wanted the best for his future, you actually wanted him not to forget you?

Nothing compares
No worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes
They are memories made.
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

You were sure nothing will compare to first love. Both of you had met in high school and there was nothing to worry or to care about back then. What ever you both did wrong, you both took it as a lesson learnt and not to make the same mistake again. But this mistake… does he know how much it stings?

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead."

"Hey, hey, did you hear the groom is only getting married so that he could get money?" said a woman.

"Yeah, I think the groom's ex needed money for her mother's operation but she didn't have enough. Luckily the bride took interest in the groom and…"

You couldn't listen anymore. No wonder the doctor finally said there was enough government funding… it wasn't the government. It was you ex.

You wanted to walk up to you ex, to thank him. You pushed through the crowd but then you stopped.

Your ex held up the glass and so did his wife. He was looking into her eyes lovingly. You couldn't watch this. Whatever hope you had left, you felt it crumbling, falling apart like the base of a badly made cheesecake.

You pushed through the crowd again towards the exit. Your head bumped into the sign "Asuma and Kurenai" and it was like a reminder that your ex had left you for someone else.

"Good bye, Asuma… I wish you have a nice life without me… but please, don't forget me…"

Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love but sometimes it hurts instead
